Exodus

The book of Exodus records the miraculous journey of the Israelites as God gave them deliverance and provision. In the middle of the book, God gave the Ten Commandments to them as evidence that He is God and He is not silent. “I am the LORD your God…do not worship any other gods besides me. Do not make idols of any kind…you must never worship or bow down to them for I will not share your affection with any other god! I do not leave unpunished the sins of those who hate me…but I lavish my love on those who love me and obey my commands, even for a thousand generations” (Exodus 20:2-6). Those are the first three of the ten. It is fascinating that on the walls of the Shan Dai Buddhist temples, some of commandments dealing with mankind are graphically displayed. Yet to the Dai’s tragic demise, somewhere in their history, the commands about God were not passed down from generation to generation. As a result, the Shan Dai deeply offend God, who requires worship of only that which is worthy: the Lord your God. May the Shan Dai people see that You, God are God alone. Rethinking generations of false teaching, we pray they change their ways to receive and then joyfully follow God’s full commandments, refusing to bow down to other gods and idols, which they have made. Lord, may there be great repentance and revival among the Shan Dai people. May they begin to experience Your lavish unfailing love from this generation forward.
Genesis

“Once upon a time, a long time ago, there was a great egg. From this great egg, life came forth…”. The introduction to a Shan Dai creation story reveals that they have a great need for truth. God desires for the Shan Dai to know who He is, how He created all things and that He has a blessed life available for them. “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth…” (Genesis 1:1). From that starting point, many events took place leading up to Abraham—known as the “father of faith”—and the covenant he received from God that all people on earth have a way to be blessed. “I will make you into a great nation and I will bless you…and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you” (Genesis 12:2-3 NIV). Creator God, we are blessed beyond measure because of You. You created us in Your very image and Jesus has remedied the sin of mankind, restoring our broken relationship with You. Amazingly, all who call upon the name of Jesus become the children of God. As Your children with access to You, we cry out on behalf of the Shan Dai people. Father, may they know You as their Creator, Redeemer and Guide for all times. Lord, You are fulfilling Your promise within us. What an awesome opportunity we have to faithfully pray for the Shan Dai that they too will enter into Your Kingdom. May they be blessed by You. Living out of the richness of that blessing, may their love grow both towards You and towards people, expanding Your Kingdom of blessedness.
