About

china_millions_sd.jpgShandai.com is a resource for you to learn, be equipped, pray for and reach the Shan Dai of China. Here’s an excerpt from the publication His First Bible to give some depth at the purpose of this site:

“We hope to give further information about the Shans, with illustrations, in a future number.” ~ Hudson Taylor’s July, 1875 newsletter, China Millions, opened with an illustration of Shan Dai people of China. Since that first promise of more to come, the Shan Dai of China have been lacking a focused and sustained witness; until recently.

Over the last decade God has stirred up a work among the Shan Dai of China. There on the Myanmar border, just south of the Himalayas, the half million Tai Nua speakers of Dehong and surrounding prefectures have begun to hear and respond to the gospel. Those new believers are now the force behind the effort to get the full Word of God into the Shan Dai language.

Now, this prayer journal is an opportunity to continue the fulfillment of the prayers of generations before. Our prayer is that this book will not only “…give further information about the Shans, with illustrations…” but will be instrumental in stirring up a sustained prayer effort that will finally bring the Shan Dai of China to be a self sufficient and growing part of God’s church.

*Shan is the Burmese name for Taic people in Myanmar and Dai is the Chinese name for Taic people in China. We have chosen to use the name Shan Dai in reference to the Dai of Western Yunnan. Other names, such as Yunnanese Shan, Chinese Shan, Dehong Dai, Han Dai and so on, usually refer to these Tai Nua or Tai Mao speakers. The words “Tai” and “Dai” are synonymous, much like the way “Beijing” and “Peking” are separate romanizations of the same name.
