His First Bible
His First Bible
His First Bible is a prayer journal, a book with prayers and photographs that weave Scripture, story and image into narratives that equipp you to pray for the Shan Dai bible translation.
Though Scripture portions will be used as they are ready, this Shan Dai boy (pictured on the cover of the book, at left) will likely be a young man by the time the Shan Dai Bible is completed. Much must happen in order for him to have his first Bible in his own language. This prayer journal is a part of the commitment to do what it takes.

An excerpt from the Intro:
The world is filled with needs and our days are filled with demands. How can any of us realistically manage to make a difference? This journal is one way. Of all the things in which we invest ourselves, being part of something lasting like getting the Word of God into the heart language of people just beginning to hear the Good News is one of the few things we can be sure will have a lasting impact.
The design of this journal has you in mind. The devotions are written to focus on each book of the Bible with an awareness of some aspect that is unique to the Shan Dai, but also a point of connection with each of us. We are reminded of our needs and God’s provision as we progress book by book. The photographs are works or art, not just giving information, but telling a story. They are presented to draw us nearer to God’s heart for a people who at times seem so exotically different, but increasingly remind us of our own hopes and fears, challenges and blessings.
The blank journal pages are for you. The translation of Scripture is a monumentally complex and difficult task. It will take years to complete. Our hope is that you will bring this book out frequently as you participate in interceding for the Shan Dai. As you have insights, updates and special requests, you are encouraged to write them down. As the translation of each book of the Bible is completed, you may want to enter the date and mark it as a time of celebration and praise. When the last book is complete and the Shan Dai church is actually using the Bible in their own language, you will have a family treasure. Our prayer is that this well worn and finished journal will be a reminder to those who follow you that we can find the time and focus, even in our busy lives, to make a difference that will last.
May God bless you as you join Him in bringing Good News to all peoples, including the Shan Dai.
